Scott Hamilton Quartet

Scott Hamilton - Tenor Sax
John Pearce - Piano
Dave Green - Bass
Steve Brown - Drums

Doors open 7.30pm
Music starts 8.000pm Tickets £15 (Members £12)

Long regarded a consummate interpreter of standards, Scott Hamilton's big, warm tenor saxophone tone and unerring sense of swing have a way of making every tune uniquely his own. While acknowledging the sidelong influence of players like Coltrane, he continues to perform the music he loves which first brought him into jazz - great ballads and blues, played from the heart with the timeless virtues of swinging playing underscoring every phrase. Appearing with his favourite British rhythm section promises to make this a very special performance at the Club by one of the leading American tenor players on the international stage.

Born in 1937 in Detroit USA, Kirk Lightsey is a remarkable jazz pianist who has played and recorded with some of America's finest instrumentalists (Sonny Stitt, Chet Baker, Dexter Gordon) as well as earning a reputation as an engaging solo performer. His fluent modern jazz phrasing draws on earlier piano styles including blues, stride, boogie-woogie and bebop - all of which Kirk uses to construct his melodic, witty and personal interpretations of jazz standards. Following his previous Club appearances with Renato D'Aiello and Bobby Wellins we are pleased to have this opportunity to showcase his genius in the trio setting.

The New Jazz Couriers

Martin Drew - Drums
Mornington Lockett - Tenor Sax
Jim Hart - Vibes
Steve Melling - Piano
Paul Morgan - Bass

Doors open 7.30pm
Music starts 8.00pm Tickets £13 (Members £10)

Keeping alive the spirit of Ronnie Scott's legendary quintet of the 60s, original Courier Martin Drew formed this band some five years ago using arrangements which saxophonist Mornington Locket transcribed from the band's records, the original parts having disappeared. It has turned out to be one of the busiest and most successful modern jazz outfits of recent years, playing the kind of music that so many of us grew up listening to. Since their last appearance at Peterborough the band have re-invented themselves to feature Jim Hart on vibes, thus keeping alive the other instrument of Ronnie's co-Courier, Tubby Hayes.

His partnership with Dave Newton stretches back to their college days together at Leeds, and with Matt Miles and Spike Wells in support you can expect to hear some great music …….. plus no doubt some of Alan's great jokes.

Vocalist Tina May and her Jazz Trio

Nikki Iles - Piano
Phil Donkin - Bass
Winston Clifford - Drums

Doors open 7.30pm
Music starts 8.00pm Tickets £16 (Members £12)

After an absence of two years we just couldn't resist booking Tina for the club's Christmas Concert to hear her beautiful interpretations of some classic 20th century songs. She has made many of the standards her own, and breathed new life into songs that have faded from our memory until she brings them out again fresh and sparkling. Since her last visit Tina has continued her successful career on the international stage and been nominated for one of this year's BBC Jazz Awards. We also have the pleasure of hearing the classiest backing trio you could possibly dream of.

What better way to see in the festive season.
