Jim Mullen (guitar), Stan Sulzmann (tenor saxophone), Mike Gorman (organ), Tristan Maillot (drums)
We’re delighted to welcome back to the Club the legendary jazz guitarist Jim Mullen, leading his quartet featuring the great saxophonist Stan Sulzmann. Glasgow born Jim Mullen has his own distinctive playing style, similar to Wes Montgomery before him, played with the Average White Band for several years before joining up with Dick Morrissey in the 1980’s, finding considerable critical acclaim as joint leader of the pioneering British jazz funk band Morrissey-Mullen. Jim has won the ‘best guitar’ section in the British Jazz Awards many times, and is without doubt one of the finest jazz guitarists in the world today. Stan Sulzmann has been one of the leading Bristish saxophonists for decades, fronting his own quartet or leading his big band and has also been internationally sought after as a jazz educator. Completing the band are Mike Gorman (organ) and Tristan Maillot (drums), two of the very best on their respective instruments.
Performing a set of standards and originals, you can expect a hard swinging evening of melodic, blues influenced, classic jazz.
